In this series of conversations I speak with leaders from various walks of life that have been working with the Enneagram to identify areas of growth and step into their unique style of leadership. Here’s what a colleague had to say:
“Thanks so much for sharing the playlist — what a rich initiative. I just started watching a few and love how grounded and authentic the conversations are. There’s something powerful about hearing leaders speak in their own voice about their inner patterns — it makes the Enneagram come alive in a very real-world, unscripted way.”
In this video I talk with Dr. Masha Petrova, an aerospace engineer and CEO who identifies as an Enneagram Type 8. We explore Masha's leadership style, her challenges as well as strengths as Masha shares her leadership journey and her use of the Enneagram system of personality and personal development.
There is relief in finally understanding her strong, assertive personality type through the lens of the Enneagram. We discuss Masha's leadership style and personal growth, highlighting the challenges women face when having a Type 8 personality in leadership roles. Masha shares her realization of the benefits of self-compassion and accepting others with different modes of operation, contrasting her previous more intense style. This shift allows her to relax and let people be themselves, resulting in better outcomes for everyone.
Do you relate to Masha, or does she remind you of someone you know? Here’s a description:
Enneagram Eight, known as "The Challenger," is characterized by their confidence, assertiveness, and desire for control. Eights are bold, decisive, and protective, often taking charge and advocating for justice and fairness. They lead with strength and independence, inspiring others with their courage and determination. However, they may struggle with vulnerability and find it difficult to open up emotionally, often masking deeper fears with a tough exterior.
At their best, Eights embody empowerment and resilience, using their strength to uplift and protect those around them while fostering a sense of trust and fairness. As leaders, Eights shine through their confidence, decisiveness, and ability to take charge in any situation. They are assertive, protective, and driven by a desire to make things happen and ensure the well-being of those they care about. Eights bring strength and clarity to their teams, often stepping forward to tackle challenges head-on and advocate for what they believe is right. Their boldness and determination inspire others to trust in their leadership and follow their vision. At their best, Eights lead with courage and compassion, balancing their strength with vulnerability and creating environments where everyone feels empowered and valued.
The Enneagram system is widely used by individuals, organizations and leaders to help build emotional intelligence and leadership competencies such as communication, decision making, conflict resolution, strategy and change management.
Using principles of conscious leadership and the Enneagram system of personality is how I help people navigate challenging life transitions and grow as individuals and leaders.
